Visit to Trinity Church

As part of our learning for our R.M.E. topic 'Welcoming a Baby in Christianity', Primary 1 visited Trinity Church in Renfrew. Mr Steele was very kind, not only did he invite us into the church - he also spoke to us about what happens when a baby is welcomed into our local church. We learned all about a Baptism ceremony, and how important it is within the church community. Mr Steele also pointed out special items within the church such as the Pulpit, Lectern, Baptismal Font and Communion Table. We sat on pews, looked at stained glass windows and had a chance to go upstairs to the balcony. We took Murphy along with us - he was learning too! Room 1 also got the chance to look at a very important book while we there! Mr Steele let us look at the Baptismal Record book - it is over 100 years old! Mrs Wallace showed us the names of all the children Mr Steele had baptised over the years. The book had lots and lots of names inside!

Litter Pick

Kirklandneuk Primary is an Eco-Friendly school. Room 1 are Responsible Citizens - we look after our playground and keep it tidy. We are learning all about waste management and recycling. Our P7 buddies came along to help Primary 1 recently on a litter pick in the school grounds!

T-shirts for Lola!

In our Charlie and Lola storybook, Lola didn't want wear a uniform to school. Charlie sent us a letter asking for our help. We decided to design t-shirts for her to wear. Room 1 made repeating patterns using 2D shapes and primary colours. Our t-shirts were made by gluing and cutting paper strips in a collage design, and by paint printing with various objects. We finished our creations with some glitter to make them extra special for Lola!

Relaxation Month - Massage

This month's Health theme is Relaxation. Primary 1a has been learning about different ways of relaxing and keeping calm. We joined our friends from rooms 2, 3 and 4 for a lovely massage session in our breakout space.

Homework in Primary 1

Primary 1a were given their homework bags for the first time this week! We were all so excited to be getting homework just like the big boys and girls! Inside our homework bags we have: Homework diaries (these tell us what to do incase we forget!) Reading books Word boxes ORT word cards Jolly Phonics sounds cards Pairs games Maths worksheets/ topic activities Name cards Parents information booklets Mrs Wallace says we must try to remember our homework bags (with everything inside) everyday, because we sometimes use the materials in class. We will work with our ORT word cards, reading books, sounds and word boxes each week with Mrs Wallace.

Active Learning in Room 1

As part of our Maths and Language programmes, we have lots of active learning activities. We enjoy lots of different things from using the computers and the Smart-board, to using multilink and playing matching and bingo games. Room 1 is very lucky to have a learning tent and comfy library. We also have a water tray and sand tray just outside our class in our fantastic breakout space. Active learning is a great chance for us to work with different people in the class. Mrs Wallace says we work very well at active learning times!
