Signs of Spring

Room 1 has noticed some changes outside. It is now Spring time, and lots of changes are taking place in our enviornment. This week, we went on a nature hunt with a partner to see how many signs of Spring we could find. Miss McCabe helped us to record our findings on the camera!

Katie Morag Topic is Unveiled!

Primary 1a unveiled their special topic recently! This term, we have been working hard to help Katie Morag. She got in touch back in January to ask for our help - she needed our class to help encourage people to read her books. We thought that creating the Isle of Struay right here in Kirklandneuk might show our friends and family how fantastic her stories are!

After creating our learning plan, and sharing our ideas with primary 1b and primary 1c, we got to work! Our class created the Struay beach, Grannie's farm and the Post Office. We designed and made bridges and jetties. With our buddies to help us, we learned Scottish ceilidh dances and sang Scottish songs. Mrs Gray even helped us when we wanted to taste Scottish cheese and oatcakes. Miss McCabe could not believe how well we managed with our writing - we made information posters, composed poems, designed post cards, wrote letters and recounts - we even created our very own Katie Morag books!

Look at our pictures below! We invited our friends and family (including our Primary 7 buddies) to see our work. Everyone was extremely impressed!! We took to the stage to sing, and treated our Mums and Dads to a bit of ceilidh dancing! Doesn't our class and breakout space look fantastic?! Katie Morag is sure more people will read her stories now!

Miss McCabe and the boys and girls of room 1 would like to thank all friends and family who came along to our open evening and made it such a wonderful success!
